The participants registered for this pre-conference course, will acquire expertise in the following areas:

Ultrasound Image Optimization

  • Learn how to use all the important knobs on the ultrasound machine
  • Understand basic principles of physics and directly apply them during routine imaging
  • Appropriate use of transducers, maneuvers and patient positioning during imaging

Arterial Pathology

  • Learn the anatomy of the neck vessels, visceral, aortic, upper and lower extremity arteries and recognize the surrounding anatomical landmarks
  • Be able to diagnose all types of arterial pathology (Early atherosclerosis, plaque, thrombosis, restenotic lesions, different types of aneurysms, dissection, arteriovenous fistula, extrinsic compression and malformations).
  • Learn how to properly assess and document occlusion
  • Recognize plaque-related pathology and be able to distinguish from artifacts
  • Learn how to detect stenosis, evaluate its severity and detect very low and high velocities
  • Recognize the different waveform patterns to aid diagnosis
  • Be able to distinguish collateral flow and understand its significance
  • Perform differential diagnosis and recognize non-arterial pathologies
  • Best way to perform physiologic testing and interpret the findings

Complete Arterial Report

  • Use appropriate terminology
  • Document velocities according to the corresponding diagnostic criteria
  • Understand the significance of the findings and report incidental pathology

Patient Management

  • Learn when to order additional imaging tests
  • Understand the different types of treatment
  • Understand appropriate use of each treatment and adjunctive therapies
  • Determine the appropriate follow-up
